Building Thriving Digital Habitats Together

THE FIRST SPORE · 2021 ARCHIVE

Alexandria’s Cakery

Visual Voice & Community Reach

Before Mycelium Creations took formal shape, our hands-on approach to small business social media and digital marketing began in 2021 with Alexandria’s Cakery. Up to that point, orders had lived primarily within circles of family and friends. The goal was to step in, capture the warmth of her craft, and help her connect with a broader local customer base.

We developed on-site process photography, documented her market booth setup in the field, and crafted a social media calendar with targeted post-boosting. The creative strategy centered on finding her distinct, authentic voice. It blended so seamlessly into her brand that prospective customers felt they were speaking directly with the baker herself.

The campaigns drove fresh market-day foot traffic, built consistent community engagement, and laid foundational groundwork for organic growth.

The Spore Effect:

Small business networks thrive through shared roots. Following Alexandria’s elevated presence is what first connected Lynelle with our work. As she began conceptualizing TerraLuna, that initial connection blossomed into a lasting creative partnership built on voice, community, and trust.

TerraLuna is a wellness and Pilates studio in Hamilton, Ohio, but at its heart, it's a community sanctuary. Led by Lynelle, a community advocate serving as Vice President of the Hamilton Pride Board, TerraLuna’s mission extends far beyond the studio walls. Her digital presence needed to reflect that fierce dedication to local arts, women, the LGBTQ+ community, and grassroots neighborhood culture.

To honor her vision without crowding her authentic voice, we established an intentional, recurring rhythm: one high-impact weekly spotlight. Rather than generic studio promotions, Mycelium Creations conducts dedicated local research to curate cultural happenings that reflect TerraLuna’s values, spotlighting partnerships and events with organizations like the Fitton Center for Creative Arts, Hamilton Pride, the Butler Philharmonic, YWCA, and the Lane Library.

Each piece weaves practical event logistics such as dates, venue access, and direct links. They also include narrative depth, explaining why each event matters to our shared ecosystem.

The Spore Effect:

When a brand uses its platform to uplift surrounding small businesses and civic initiatives, it transforms followers into an active network. By handling the research and community storytelling, we keep TerraLuna positioned as a trusted civic pillar while freeing Lynelle to do what she does best: guide her clients, nurture shared traditions outside the studio, and champion local causes on the ground.

NONPROFIT & CHURCH WEB DESIGN · GLENDALE, OH

Complete Squarespace Redesign, Directory Architecture & Community Engagement

While in college, I stepped away from the Roman Catholic traditions of my upbringing. Years passed before I decided it was time to find a spiritual foundation. If I’m honest, it was more for my son than for myself. I planned to visit more churches, but my journey started at Christ Church Glendale. Walking through those beautiful red doors in early 2022 felt like discovering a true spiritual home. It didn’t take long for me to become deeply integrated into the community after experiencing an uncompromising welcome within the parish. I was eventually formally received into the Episcopal Church after the birth of my second child. Well before that formal milestone, however, that sense of belonging had already transformed into active digital stewardship.

Joining the Communications and Technology Commission in late 2022 gave me the space to bring a fresh perspective to parish life. I established a verified Google Business Profile, connected active social platforms, created engaging community content, and ultimately stepped into the role of Commission Chair.

Across seasonal liturgies and community gatherings, I also picked up the camera, capturing documentary photography to ensure the real, diverse faces of CCG replaced generic imagery.

Today, that partnership has evolved into the role of Webmaster, where I am actively leading an ongoing, ground-up revitalization of the church’s legacy website. The original platform carried deep foundational blind spots: missing target keywords, zero image alt text, unindexed media files, and fragmented pathways that didn't reflect the vitality of the congregation.

This overhaul is an active work in progress. Working section by section across commissions and clergy, I am restructuring core pathways, building visitor-focused worship hubs, family formation spaces, and clean staff directories. With every updated page, we are weaving in strategic local SEO, accessible mobile-first navigation, and living congregation photography, systematically transforming an outdated portal into a warm, modern digital home.

The Spore Effect:

Sustainable growth doesn't happen overnight. It takes root through patience, active presence, and steady cultivation. By balancing deep parish life with methodical technical overhauls, each refreshed page extends the parish's radical hospitality further into the digital world.

HEALTH & WELLNESS WEB DESIGN · ADA ACCESSIBILITY · CINCINNATI & BEYOND

Accessible by Design: An ADA-Compliant, Client-Centered Digital Hub for Integrative Nutritional Wellness

When Lynelle at TerraLuna Wellness referred fellow health practitioner Christy at Design Nutrition, the goal was to build a tailored digital presence with the same grounded authority, warmth, and clinical trust her practice provides in person. As a custom Squarespace web designer serving Cincinnati and Southwest Ohio, the challenge was translating an existing brand identity from static print collateral into an accessible, high-converting digital habitat.

Many vibrant visual identities encounter severe digital hurdles on the web. While Design Nutrition’s original palette featured lively shades of teal, gold, and dusty rose, unadjusted application created significant contrast failures under modern readability rules. We re-architected the color system for ADA and WCAG 2.1 AA compliance (4.5:1+ contrast ratios), anchoring the layout in deep Midnight navy and clean white while reallocating teal, gold, and tangerine as intentional focus indicators and call-to-action accents.

The Spore Effect:

Grounded by a scannable typographic hierarchy using Barlow Condensed and Barlow Semi Condensed, the layout transforms dense wellness service packages and consultation workflows into clear, readable client pathways. Crafted in Squarespace Fluid Engine, the resulting responsive healthcare website delivers seamless mobile optimization, fast load times, and an intuitive user experience across every screen size.

AUTHOR PLATFORM & CREATIVE HUB · GLENDALE, OH

Radical Simplicity: Lightweight WordPress Architecture and Distraction-Free Layouts for the Modern Writer

Sometimes the healthiest digital spaces are the ones with room to breathe. When an editor gave the straightforward advice that every writer needs an online address, the official author platform for speculative writer and poet C. Kohrs (the pen name of Mycelium’s own founder) was born. The directive was radical simplicity: zero algorithmic noise, zero bloated plugin stacks, and pure editorial clarity.

Many author websites get bogged down by cluttered sidebars, invasive pop-ups, and complex directories that distract from the work itself. For ckohrs.com, we bypassed the bloat to focus on high-legibility typography, quiet layout rhythm, and frictionless navigation. Built on a streamlined WordPress foundation, the platform gives editors, publishers, and readers an instant pathway to explore published poetry, anthologies, and background without maintenance overhead.

The Spore Effect:

A distraction-free digital habitat that proves you don’t need digital excess to build a credible creative presence. All you need is intentional structure and words that have space to resonate.

COMMUNITY EVENT HUB & CAMPAIGN DESIGN · GLENDALE, OH

Unifying a Village: End-to-End Brand Architecture,
Event Web Design, and Cross-Channel Print Collateral

A village thrives when its spaces welcome everyone. Serving as both lead organizer and brand architect for the Glendale CommUNITY Festival, Mycelium Creations designed and executed the digital hub and marketing collateral for an annual celebration created to foster belonging, uplift local makers, and weave a stronger neighborhood fabric.

Community events require multi-tiered communication on tight deadlines: managing vendor applications, food truck logistics, terms, real-time schedule adjustments, and inclusive community standards. We built glendalecommunityfest.com as a high-visibility, mobile-first command center, anchoring an omni-channel rollout that included cohesive yard signs, physical flyers, and targeted local social campaigns.

The Spore Effect

A vibrant, approachable digital gathering place that streamlined community outreach and vendor coordination—proving that thoughtful local design can bridge divides and turn grassroots momentum into real physical connection.
